Tom Hanks Remembers Disneyland Traffic Moment With Rob Reiner
Mr. Tom Hanks has shared a personal story about his late friend Mr. Rob Reiner, recalling how a family trip to Disneyland during the making of “Sleepless in Seattle” turned into an unexpected moment of movie-related coincidence on the drive home.
Stuck in heavy Los Angeles traffic after leaving the theme park, the two families found themselves alongside a commuter bus equipped with TV monitors, and People reported that Mr. Hanks and Mr. Reiner realised the screens were playing “Sleepless in Seattle,” including the “tiramisu scene” they had filmed together.
Mr. Hanks said he and Mr. Reiner leaned over to watch through the bus window, then tried to get passengers’ attention as the scene approached. He described honking and motioning, and said one rider eventually recognised what was happening, turning the traffic jam into a comic, shared memory for the pair.
The actor’s recollection came during an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” where he reflected on how working with Nora Ephron helped spark a friendship that extended beyond the film set. Mr. Hanks said their children were close in age, leading the two families to spend time together off-camera.
Mr. Hanks’ wife, Ms. Rita Wilson, has also spoken recently about memories of Mr. Reiner and Ms. Michele Singer Reiner. The couple died in December 2025, and their son has been charged in connection with their deaths and has pleaded not guilty.
