Chet Hanks Moves to Nashville for Country Music
Chet Hanks, the son of actors Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, has relocated to Nashville as he pursues a new country music chapter with his group Something Out West. The move marks a shift away from his Hollywood acting work and earlier musical ventures, as he focuses on building a life and career in Music City.
Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Hanks said he has been living in a trailer park after growing tired of bouncing between short-term stays, with American Songwriter reporting that he opted for a Jayco Eagle trailer rather than buying another property while still owning a condo in Los Angeles.
Hanks told host Jimmy Fallon that the decision followed time spent travelling in an Airstream, which he enjoyed enough to pursue trailer living more permanently, even if he admitted he is “not there yet” when it comes to buying the higher-end model. He also highlighted practical details that appealed to him, including having a kitchen and a walk-in shower, noting that some trailers combine the toilet and shower in what is known as a “wet bath.”
On the music side, Hanks discussed developing Something Out West with Mr. Drew Arthur. According to the segment, the pair signed with Big Machine Records after releasing their track “Leaving Hollywood,” a title that reflects the career pivot he is leaning into with his Nashville base.
Hanks also joked that he may be the youngest person in his trailer park by decades, pushing back on stereotypes that such living arrangements are inherently unsafe. For Hanks, the reset in Nashville appears aimed at keeping his focus on songwriting, recording, and establishing credibility in a genre that often prizes everyday detail and lived experience.
