Tool have recruited Joe Barresi to produce the recording sessions for the band’s long-awaited new album. Barresi, an acclaimed producer who has worked with Avenged Sevenfold, Volbeat and Slipknot, engineered and mixed Tool’s last album, 2006’s 10,000 Days.

Tool guitarist Adam Jones stated in January that the music for the band’s first new effort in more than 12 years was finished, later writing that the recording sessions would begin in March. Meanwhile, frontman Maynard James Keenan revealed last month that he had finished writing the “words and melodies” to all but one new song for the new disc.

Tool guitarist Adam Jones posted on Instagram a very short studio video with the caption: ‘Day 1.’ It was announced last month that Maynard James Keenan would be entering the studio to record his vocals for Tool’s new album in March for three weeks, and this appears to begin the recording process. It is unclear if this was Keenan’s first day or if he will be joining next week.

Maynard James Keenan takes care of his work in a quick and efficient manner according to his Tool bandmate Adam Jones. Jones had previously reported that Keenan would record his vocals with the band in March, and he also told fans that the legendary singer will spend three weeks in the studio recording his vocals.

Jones first posted a KISS themed photo with the caption, “#andPartyEveryday ??@korinfaught (left) with the Ladies flying somewhere on the other side of the earth ? #KissFacePack #kiss.”

He then told fans in a comment, “March to April. We have MJK for 3 weeks in March ??????.”

A fan tweeted Maynard James Keenan recently saying, “Love it. Thank you Maynard! Hahaha. Don’t forget puscifer sometime down the road!”

Keenan responded, “Already on it.”

Another fan tweeted, “My daughter is dying for new music! #toolarmy #thirdeye.”

Keenan responded, “Go write some.”

Maynard tweeted a major Tool update last month before deleting it last week, “Started getting music files from the boys w the word FINAL in the title a few months ago after 11 years of begging. That in theory means the tracks wont change out from under me while I’m trying to write stories and melodies to them. In theory. Still waiting for the FINAL on 1 but way ahead. Words & Melodies 100% DONE on all but 1.

Someday we’ll track them. Long way from the finish line, but at least we’re closer. Meanwhile new @aperfectcircle release on 4/20. #whileyouwerewhiningiwasworking #theresyourupdate #eattheelephant #aperfectcircle2018”
