Tool’s Maynard James Keenan Reveals What Hair Metal Icon He’d Like To Collaborate With

Puscifer members Maynard James Keenan, Carina Round, and Mat Mitchell were recently interviewed by Destroy All Lines and were asked about people they’d like to collaborate with. Alternative Nation transcribed their answers. Keep in mind the members were laughing while answering!

Maynard: Steve Martin.

Mat: Joe Satriani?

Maynard: Gotta patch that one up.

Carina: Dr. Dre.

Maynard: Sebastien fuckin’ Bach.

Mat: That would actually be fun.

Maynard: That probably wouldn’t be that difficult.

Mat: I was watching Sebastien Bach YouTube videos recently.

Carina: Why?

Mat: Because his voice is awesome!

Keenan also discussed possibly collaborating with electronic artists, “The easiest way to collaborate with those kind of so called digital artists would be just to hand them hard drives of stuff you’ve already done. There’s so much to draw from for an artist to just do their own version of a rework.”

The Satriani answer was in reference to Keenan saying, “I’ve worked with a lot of people over the years that are very technical, and very good at what they do, but they are not necessarily creative. The creative force, that kind of idea, well spring, is where some of the best music comes from. Not from guys who, no disrespect to Joe Satriani, those kind of very technically, learned it, school players. I think a lot of times they lack humanity, there’s not a lot of breath that comes out of the music that I hear from, I don’t want to say educated, indoctrinated musicians tend to be a little stiff.”
