Howard Stern praised Axl Rose singing “Black Hole Sun” by Chris Cornell and Soundgarden on his show, and called his Guns N’ Roses bandmate Slash a ‘star.’
MarksFriggin.com recapped: Howard said Slash is such a f**king star. He said he did a guitar solo that included the Godfather theme. Howard played some of that. Robin said you never hear anyone playing that. Howard said they also covered ”Black Hole Sun” during the concert. Howard said they added that to the set list after Chris Cornell died. Howard played some of that too.
Axl Rose ‘refusing’ a new Guns N’ Roses album demand was revealed last week. After the break they played Phil Collins ”I Can’t Dance” as they were coming back. Howard came back and talked the song up like a top 40 DJ. Howard said he probably played this at WNBC. Fred said it’s too new. Robin said it’s too hip too. Howard said he loves how they left and they had to sell the station. He said the same thing happened at K-Rock. Robin said she was in the car listening to terrestrial radio the other day. She said she lasted until she got out of the tunnel. She said she wasn’t even able to remember what station they were on other than the numbers 92.3.
Howard said it’s kind of cool that they fall apart after they leave. He said NBC lost a lot of money too. He said they hated each other when they left. He said that they did him dirty because they hired him without hearing him. He said they all wanted to fire him and it was crazy. He said they tried to get him to quit. He said they should have just paid him not to come there. He said thank god they didn’t just pay him not to show up. He said he never would have had a career. He said they would have been unhireable.
Howard said he really does love that they work at stations and when they leave they fall apart. Robin said that’s what happens when they work at toilet bowls. Howard said it’s such an accomplishment. He said they took their shitty product and made it successful. He said every station acted like they didn’t need him. He said they were dead last and he made them number 1. Robin said every other show is sold based on getting Howard. Howard said they get full of themselves and forget that. Howard said that’s just to remind everyone how great they are.
