Tool and Puscifer frontman Maynard James Keenan announced that his stepmother Janet Joanne Keenan has passed away.
Posting photos of his stepmother on his Instagram account, he relayed the sad news to his fans and shared details about her life.
Being an only child of Michael Loren Keenan and Judith Marie, Maynard’s parents divorced when he was four. His father moved to Michigan, so the musician lived with his mother. His mother would pass away in 2003.
Maynard’s father married Janet, who was an English and Spanish teacher. She passed away at the age of 75 on May 24. Maynard posted a tribute to his stepmother, stating that she was a fun person and taught him to stand his ground on truth, and not depend on lies. She was also his English and Spanish teacher at his school.
He wrote the following about her on his Instagram post:
“What a year. Just lost my stepmother. Janet Joanne Keenan, age 75, passed away Tue, May 24th, 2022. She was born on Sept 25th, 1946. She was also my English & Spanish teacher at Mason County Central H.S., Scottville, Michigan.
“She was equal parts fun, inquisitive, and armed with a well-developed baloney detector. All conversations with her were playful and challenging exchanges. She taught me to stand my ground but never rely on bullshit to do it. She will be missed. Godspeed, Jan.”
