Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan revealed that PJ Harvey, Joni Mitchelll, Gillian Welch, and Carina Round broke his heart during powerful live performances. Tool are currently touring Europe, and the new Tool album will be released on August 30th.

A fan wrote to Keenan on Twitter, “Nobody rocks like #Tool isnt that right @mjkeenan.”

Keenan responded, “Depends. ‘Rocks’ is subjective. Had my mind blown and heart broken at live performances by @PJHarveyUK @nickcave @thejesuslizard #ahmadjamal @JoniMitchellcom @gillianwelch @BlondeRedhead @carinaround All of which ‘Rock’ in different ways.”

Another fan wrote, “When I saw Tool (1992) they opened for Fishbone, I didn’t ever heard of them. In a small club, maybe 400 people. I wanted to hear a few minutes and go for a beer… but they hypnotized me. From this day, my life and vision of music changed. That’s what I call rock band.”

One fan responded, “I would agree, even though I take seeing #Tool at The Orpheum in Minneapolis as one of the best/intimate shows I have ever seen, but Seeing the @PIXIES 2 years ago of 27 straight songs with not as much as a ‘Hi’ to the crowd was an amazing band making a new definition of ‘Rock.'”

Another fan said, “I can’t speak on the other artists as I haven’t seen them live, but I saw Carina Round open for Puscifer a few years back and I can confirm that she did, in fact, rock. Not as much of a fan of her studio stuff, but I definitely dig her music in a live setting.”
