Tobias Forge Calls Out Bad Ghost Guitar Playing

Ghost frontman Tobias Forge recently discussed failing when attempting to play difficult guitar solos in the studio in a new Ultimate-Guitar interview. Ozzy Osbourne recently mocked Tobias Forge.

“When I was 20 I played death metal all the time so I got pretty fast and I had the arm for it. So now, I could probably practice, but I don’t think I could play death metal anymore, because it takes a certain amount of practice to have the arm for it. So for me, when I write, I sit there and I write every instrument, I write the bass, I write the guitars, I write the solos, I write everything. But then sometimes my head hears something where I say ‘fuck, I’m going to have to cut and paste things a little bit’. Some of the stuff is a little too complex to play from front to finish.

Tobias Forge revealed recently if Ghost sold out for money. Forge added, “When I made Prequelle I made an effort to practice more before during the demoing, before going into the studio. That made me a little more on edge when I went in to do the actual tracking, which was good. But when you go from composer to producer to performing mode, you want to do it from start to finish but it’s pretty complex. I mean if you’re a shredder, it’s not complex, but it’s easy to f*** it up if you play it from start to finish.”

Forge told Two Doods Review about the band’s future and their ongoing storyline, and how far he looks into the future creatively, “I know where we’re going now and maybe five years ahead. To draw a parallel to cinema or TV or making a series, I believe that the good series are the ones where you… It’s kind of like writing a novel — if you want a really good ending, you start with the ending and then you work your way back.”

A Ghost member was filmed last week begging a fan to buy an album. Forge added, “I did not know, when taking the first nine steps between 2006 and 2009, 2010, when the first record came out, I had no idea that this was gonna be a full-time job. You couldn’t have made that up in 2008, that this kind of band might become this big. So Ghost was, in a way, the pilot that got airing, and then all of sudden you’ve got the first season greenlit, and then that becomes a major smash, and then you’re, like, ‘Okay.’ So then you have to follow that up. And, unfortunately, you see that with a lot of series. And that means you have to try to create it as you go. So, yeah, I can see five years from now, but it’s impossible for me to [look further ahead].”
