Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has rarely mentioned Chris Cornell by name since his May 2017 death, though he has honored him several times without a direct reference, but Saturday night at the Ohana Festival in Dana Point, California, he told a touching story about his late friend. Vedder ‘finishing’ with Pearl Jam was detailed a couple of days ago.

When discussing Daniel Johnston’s recent death, he said that he and Chris Cornell were big fans. He said that one night that sat together in a room on ‘half a couch’ listening to Johnston. He joked that he didn’t want to say ‘love seat’ because that ‘might be kind of weird.’

He said they spent hours ‘laughing’ and ‘crying’ listening to Johnston, and said that 2 hours became 4 hours, and that then turned into 6 hours, and it was 6AM by the time they were done listening. He said he and Cornell agreed that Johnston was better than either of them. Vedder then performed Johnston’s “Walking The Cow” and mentioned Kurt Cobain.
