The Smashing Pumpkins have confirmed their first new release to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their landmark double album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. The album was released on October 23, 1995.

The Pumpkins are releasing Mellon Collie apparel. The band announced, “Part 1 of the 25th anniversary celebration of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness begins with SP’s collaboration with @hufworldwide Available now!” A Smashing Pumpkins television series has also been announced.

The Smashing Pumpkins will release their new album CYR on November 27th, the band’s followup to 2018’s Shiny and Oh So Bright Vol. 1/LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. That album saw James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin return to recording with the Pumpkins for the first time since the 2000’s.

Alternative Nation has also learned that The Smashing Pumpkins are already working on the followup to CYR. Billy Corgan told fans, “Day was fine. Am working on next SP album (not the one coming out, a new one…)”

The two year window between recent Smashing Pumpkins album, along with the next followup, could be the band’s most consistent output since Gish, Siamese Dream, and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness were released in two year increments from 1991-1995.

The Smashing Pumpkins were expected to tour with Guns N’ Roses this past summer, but the worldwide pandemic unfortunately canceled those plans. Pearl Jam recently announced a show with The Smashing Pumpkins.
