Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has reacted to some fans criticizing Foo Fighters for going in a new direction with their new single “Shame Shame” and other leaked new songs off of their new album Medicine at Midnight.

What are your thoughts on Dave Grohl having to justify FF’s new sound?

“I haven’t seen that but Dave doesn’t have to justify shit. He’s a great artist and musician and if he wants to explore, let him.”

Do you think rock music will ever come back to the mainstream?

“No, and honestly why do we need the ‘mainstream’ anymore? Rock has never been bigger in its reach and that’s without the approval of the same crowd that supports junk and more junk.”

You probably get asked this a lot, but what advice do you have for new and aspiring bands?

“If you find yourself sounding too much like what everyone is listen to you’re already losing.”

Advice for surviving the sea of negative news (such as COVID feeling like it will never end)?

“Try to separate what is real and what is being fed to you to get you to believe that things are worse than they are. Because even a 5pct difference is a big difference.”

Biggest takeaway from the pandemic?

“That our culture in the west has eroded into crass mysticism and an over reliant belief in the State.”

Foo Fighters will release Medicine at Midnight on February 5, 2021. The Smashing Pumpkins will release their new album CYR on November 27, 2021. Foo Fighters fans were angered by their first 2020 show.
