Original AC/DC singer Dave Evans was interviewed by Neil Turbin of The Metal Voice recently and discussed a variety of topics. Here, Evans compares the environments between bands back then to “gang culture” and discusses how he, Malcolm Young and a roadie for AC/DC once had an altercation with another band, in which bricks, cut bottles, and planks of wood were involved. Alternative Nation transcribed his remarks. An AC/DC icon reacted to a disgusting hotel room claim last week

Evans: Back in those days the bands, in Australia at least were like a gang. We didn’t talk to the other bands much and every band was trying to make it.

Turbin: It was very competitive.

Evans: Very. There weren’t as many record labels in those days and lots of bands. So we weren’t very talkative to each other and there was like this gang mentality between the bands and actually at one time Malcolm [Young], myself and our roadie had a fight with one of the bands after we went to Checkers one night they come to attack us. Malcolm had picked up a plank of wood, our roadie had picked up a brick and I picked up a cut bottle and smashed it like *that* and they took off and ran up the alleyway. So yeah, it was real gang mentality within the bands in those days. We didn’t really talk to each other and it was so competitive

Turbin: So it was the streets back in those days.

Evans: Yeah it was tough and it was interesting.

An AC/DC member revealed why Angus Young is a ‘recluse’ earlier this week. There are rumors that Brian Johnson, Phil Rudd, and Cliff Williams will rejoin AC/DC for a new album and tour in 2020.
