The Smashing Pumpkins recorded tracks for a Christmas album last year, but Billy Corgan has announced that version of the record has been scrapped, and the band will be starting over with a new Christmas album. A Smashing Pumpkins member revealed a painful John Frusciante secret last week.

Below are highlights from Corgan’s recent Instagram story Q&A, where he also discussed Ricky Gervais unloading on Hollywood actors and their hypocrisy at the Golden Globes, complained about high taxes in Illinois, and explained why he’s selling so much guitar gear.

Did you end up scrapping the Christmas album? Will you start it over?

“Starting over, yes.”

Why are you selling so much stuff?

“Not sure I follow. We have businesses. It’s what businesses do. Go to the land of barter, man. Enjoy…”

What did you think about what Ricky Gervais said at the Globes?

“To me it’s not what he said, it’s that we cannot lose the freedom to just say things out loud.”

Have you thought about making Nashville home?

“I’ve considered it with ridiculous Illinois taxes (and only getting worse).”

What was writing process behind Black Oblivion with Tony Iommi? Did you bring it in mostly done?

“No, we wrote song together in studio. Tony providing all the riffs, of course!!”

I always love to watch your interviews because you’re so intelligent and well spoken.

“Which makes you wonder why so many are afraid to interview me anymore.” Billy Corgan was savagely disrespected on a plane with his girlfriend last week.
