During a recent interview, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl answered an open ad for a lead singer on the phone. Alternative Nation transcribed the conversation.
Grohl said, “Hi, I’m calling about the ad in the paper looking for a vocalist/singer.”
The musician responded, “The auditions are this weekend.”
Grohl said, “Oh, they’re this weekend. Maybe I could just do a little something right now.”
The musician said, “Alright, do you have any previous experience?”
Grohl said, “A little bit, I like to sing to myself.”
He then sang part of Sir Mix A Lot’s “Baby Got Back.”
At the end of the performance, he said, “I like to rap.”
The musician responded, “Yeah, I think you need to stick to the shower mate.”
Grohl asked, “You sure? But wait, let me give you something else.”
The musician got annoyed, “You haven’t even prepared anything.”
Grohl shot back, “I’m more of a spontaneous type.”
He then sang part of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
The musician responded, “Your pitch is all off mate.”
