Jane’s Addiction’s original lineup recently released their first new song in 34 years, “Imminent Redemption.” The band released the song on vinyl with “True Love” as its b-side, but the single can only be purchased at live shows. Ain’t No Right has unearthed a rough recording of the song.

While “Imminent Redemption” was a more bombastic rocker that mixed Eric Avery’s dark brooding rhythm in the verses with Perry Farrell’s more Strays style soaring pop rock chorus, “True Love” is a slow moody ballad driven entirely by bass, as heard in its live versions with both Josh Klinghoffer and Dave Navarro on guitar.
While Navarro was front and center on “Imminent Redemption” despite not being active in the band when it was originally written two years ago, he takes a back seat on “True Love” to let the song breathe. Perry Farrell gives one of his most poignant vocal performances in recent memory, with lyrics that are more similar to his Porno for Pyros days than recent work over the last decade plus like The Great Escape Artist.
Both songs show there is still creative juice left in Jane’s Addiction, and one can only hope that the band can stick together to make a new album in 2025, despite Eric Avery and Perry Farrell teasing that the band still teasing a breakup after disagreements in the studio. With so many 90’s rock bands having key members dead after the passing of icons like Chris Cornell and Scott Weiland, alternative rock needs Jane’s Addiction to find a way to find a true second act with its original lineup still intact.
