Maynard James Keenan is not only a part of Tool but also A Perfect Circle and then there’s Puscifer. While, Tool is spectacular to watch at live shows, it is an important part of those shows to witness the vocalist Maynard James Keenan and his stage presence. In a recent interview for Revolver, conducted by none other than comedian David Cross, Maynard discussed the differences between doing Tool and Puscifer live shows.
Maynard James Keenan Puscifer has given him a break
During the interview, James Keenan noted that the operators are top drawer who enhance the quality of the live shows. “Tool shows… You’ve got four top-notch operators on point for the most part. We’re all getting older and things are creaking a little bit more. But you have this insane production and those guys are so loud already. Just their individual stage volumes are big.”
He went on to say that Puscifer has given him a ‘nice break’ and outlined why is quite different from his other endeavor, Tool.
He said: “And so, for me, [Puscifer] is actually a nice break, because the subtleties that we work through with Puscifer, it ends up being far more Kraftwerk control over levels. Just easier space to navigate and for the cabaret nature of some of the things we do.”
He revealed what goes into making the music and songs in Puscifer. He said that it’s not “just the music and Matt [Mitchell] lays down a beautiful bed of sounds for me to play with vocally and then work with Carina [Round] on melodies and things.”
He noted that the characters and dimensions separate Puscifer from other groups. He said that the members need to adjust into the scripts and the scenes. It is “because I can’t be prowling around like a f**king maniac in Puscifer. Because it doesn’t fit. It’s just not the same vibe.”
