In a new Zeit Online interview, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash revealed why he spent $200,000 on a guitar. Slash’s answers are translated, so the verbiage may not be exact.
ZEIT ONLINE: Or owns a guitar that costs $ 200,000?
Slash: Well, good guitars are good guitars. I confess myself guilty: I also have some very nice and very expensive guitars. But I use it too.
ZEIT ONLINE: Your father designed album art for Neil Young and Joni Mitchell; you mother was a costume designer. So pop stars like David Bowie came to your house when you were young. Does your dealings with your own prominence have anything to do with how you grew up?
Slash: As a kid, you do not really have anything to compare your own life with. Looking back, I am happy to have grown up in such an artistic environment. However, most of the time I went to a state school – I never really fit in, because I just did not come from a typical American mainstream family.
Slash is currently touring behind Living the Dream with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. He is expected to record a new album with Guns N’ Roses later this year after completing the Conspirators tour.
