Tool’s official website has posted the following, leading to heavy criticism on Reddit that Blair, the site’s webmaster, is taking advantage of the band’s fanbase as they await the new album:

For those who are interested in acquiring some very scarce books on ufology, I have listed some titles from my personal collection on eBay. All of the copies are extras – otherwise you couldn’t pry them from my fingers with a crowbar – and all are listed as “priced to sell” with hopes that I will be able to use any proceeds to help offset the cost of a new book project.

If you’re not familiar with Gray Barker’s Saucerian Press, it was, for the most part, a small mail order business that the publisher (one of the key figures in the golden age of saucerdom) ran from his residence in West Virginia from the early 1950s until his death in 1984. Barker’s legacy was his introducing of paranormal concepts that have now become Hollywood staples, including the notorious Men In Black, The Braxton County/Flatwoods Monster, The Mothman and the Philadelphia Experiment. Most of the books were amateurish publications that were either spiral bound or had stapled cardstock covers. As such, those that survived over the years are extremely sought after by collectors. Recently, some of these rarities have become available to the public (albeit with silly cover illustrations and sensationalist new titles) by Amazon’s “CreateSpace Independent Platform” and the “New Saucerian Press. If you’re only interested in the information contained therein, these are fine. HOWEVER, if you’re looking to collect or invest in the ORIGINALS, please check out my current auctions on eBay. (NOTE: For more information about Gray Barker and his Saucerian Books, I’ve written an article in DARKLORE VOLUME X (“Making the Unbelievable Believable – The M.I.B. of Saucerer Gray Barker”) that’s available at Amazon.

Included are 2 copies of the legendary VARO EDITION of M.K. Jessup’s 1955 “Case For The UFO,” Unlike others that are for sale on-line, both are original Saucerian Press issues from 1973 that Barker laboriously assembled as a “virtually exact facsimile” of the clandestinely produced original by the Varo Corporation in the 1950s. In these Saucerian issues, all of the mind-boggling discussions (marginal notations, etc.) of Mr. A, Mr. B. and Jemi are listed in separate RED INK to represent the three shades of ink used by the ‘annotators.’ When first published in 1973, due to the cost involved in duplicating the notations in a separate color of ink, the book’s price was a hefty $32.50.

If you can find one today, you can expect to pay up to $500.00. The two that I’ve listed are considerably less.

Related to the mysterious VARO EDITION, I’ve also listed a Saucerian Press copy of “THE JESSUP DIMENSION” (1981). Although I’ve seen other copies of this title go for several thousand dollars (as much as $6,000.00!), my copy starts at $250.00 and can be brought NOW for $325.00.

One of Barker’s last titles, “GRAY BARKER’s M.I.B… The Secret Terror Among Us” has also been listed. Again, this is the ORIGINAL from 1984, with only one other copy currently on-line (priced at over $700.00 even through its heavily marked up with underlining and such). Mine starts at $299 and can be bought NOW for $325.00.

Perhaps even more sought after by collectors is a beautiful copy of “SERPENTS OF FIRE – THE HITLER-UFO STORY (1983) for $250.00 (Try to find another ORIGINAL of this title anywhere on the Net!)

I’m also listing an original copy of “UFO WARNING” (1967 Saucerian printing) for $50.00 as well as Gray Barker’s very first article on anomalous objects (the Flatwoods Monster) in the January 1955 issue of FATE MAGAZINE for $30.00.

In realizing that some of these prices are still out of range for many people (and, believe me, I’ve had my share of allowing the rain to fall in my cup of beer), I’ve also listed a few books that – although not as rare as rocking horse road apples- still can be quite hard to find at a decent price, such as Kenneth Arnold’s “The Coming of the Saucers” (1952) https://www.ebay.com/itm/22345…

and George Hunt Williamson’s “The Saucers Speak!” (1954). https://www.ebay.com/itm/223456322524

Finally, there are a couple of monochrome issues of “THE SHAVER MYSTERY MAGAZINE” from the 1940s. These pamphlets are extremely hard to find and some of the earliest writings to deal with the subterranean UFO phenomena. Thanks for reading and happy bidding!
