As a longtime and fanatical fan of Nirvana, I’ve come to the conclusion this simply isn’t true. Kurt was always thinking ahead, always planning, always ambiguous. He didn’t just write lyrics on the spot—but he did give the impression he did.
The Foo Fighters’ first album? Yeah, those lyrics were definitely written on the spot (“Fingernails are pretty”…etc etc.). But there’s something much different about Cobain’s lyrics, especially in their most popular song.
