Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain has posted a photo of Jim Carrey with a bad ass and creepy beard on her Instagram story where he gives a great point about how people really get by in life. Carrey says in the quote, “The older I get the more I realize no one has any idea of what they are actually doing and everyone is just pretending.” Frances Bean Cobain recently reacted to a painful Green Day photo.
Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” lyrics were recently analyzed by Beauhio on the band’s Reddit:
I know—who wants to hear yet another opinion on this over-analyzed subject.
But honestly, one of the biggest things that grinds my gears when other people say, “Nirvana’s lyrics don’t mean anything.”
As a longtime and fanatical fan of Nirvana, I’ve come to the conclusion this simply isn’t true. Kurt was always thinking ahead, always planning, always ambiguous. He didn’t just write lyrics on the spot—but he did give the impression he did.
The Foo Fighters’ first album? Yeah, those lyrics were definitely written on the spot (“Fingernails are pretty”…etc etc.). But there’s something much different about Cobain’s lyrics, especially in their most popular song.
Load up on guns, bring your friends
Teen revolution. Backed up by a quote from Cobain and setting the theme of guns in Nirvana ‘s music early on.
It’s fun to lose and to pretend
It’s more enjoyable to try the things you want to do for yourself even if you don’t earn the approval of others — you can always just pretend you got the attention of everyone else with your music.
She’s over-bored, self assured/Oh no I know a dirty word
I believe these lines are about Tobi Vail.
Pixies homage from the song, “Gigantic” (Hey Paul, hey Paul)
With the lights out, it’s less dangerous
When the spotlight isn’t on you, there are no stakes. When nobody’s watching, there’s no room for failure or pressure from the outside
Here we are now, entertain us
But Nirvana is here, and they’re here to be a pop band. The people have noticed them, and now it is Kurt’s job to entertain
A mulatto, an albino, a mosquito
These are the entertainers. These are Nirvana (Mulatto — Krist because of his lush brown hair in the 90s. Albino — Kurt because he’s a heroin addict who suffers from pale skin. Mosquito — named last because Dave was the last to join and because he’s thin and wiry, like a bug). Frances Bean Cobain recently uploaded a tight Disney sweatshirt video.
