Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins said in a new Billboard interview that he hopes Foo Fighters retire before it ‘gets bad,’ and that he treats every performance like it could be his last show. Dave Grohl recently unearthed a brutal unheard Foo Fighters song.

“In the beginning, we really didn’t know how to be a band. Now everyone has their roles and knows the drill, and it’s a lot smoother.” But that doesn’t mean it’s always easy. “Dave knows how to get what he wants from me as a drummer in the studio. I did a track the other day, and when I got home, I was mentally exhausted — because I’m trying to make one of the greatest drummers in the world happy. It’s like doing the lead vocal for Freddie Mercury.”

A Foo Fighters member discussed a hotel drug overdose last week. Hawkins said he could never seen the band breaking up, though he did hint at how the band could end. “Even when I think I’m never going to get it the way he wants, we always get there in the end. Because there’s a bigger picture: the family that is the Foo Fighters. There’s no quitting anymore, there’s no breaking up. We’re too old to break up. It would be like your grandparents getting a divorce.”

“You still have to treat every gig and every session like it could be the last — because there may come a point where Dave goes, ‘I don’t think I can get up there and scream like a wild animal anymore. I just hope that we stop before it gets bad.”

Foo Fighters recently called out an insult at a Smashing Pumpkins concert. Foo Fighters’ Sonic Highways celebrated its 5th anniversary a couple of days ago, and fans reflected on it on the Foo Fighters Reddit.

Terribl3Tim posted, “I loved it until I watched the documentary, after that it was just cringe all the way to the bank, mainly due to the way they just shoehorned in names, places and quotes from whichever episode birthed the song.

I know that was kind of the point but the songs don’t come across as inspired by the locations but written directly about them instead. It all just feels obvious and lazy.

All of the depth just dropped right out of the album as soon as the show aired. Wish I’d never watched it as in isolation the album is arguably better than Concrete.”

willyboy82 responded, “I agree with you to a certain extent. I don’t think it was cringe at all, but I can understand it being viewed as lazy and kinda shallow.

Also, I think it’s musically a better album than C&G. The production is also way better than C&G imo. The only song on Sonic Highways that just doesn’t do much for me is I Am a River. It’s just waaaayy too long to be as repetitive as it is.” You can read the full Taylor Hawkins interview at Billboard.
