Tool bassist Justin Chancellor revealed that he wanted to bash his head into a wall in the studio on some days when working on the new album Fear Inoculum. Maynard James Keenan being disrespected after a Tool departure was revealed yesterday.
“He said about the recording process in a Visions magazine interview, “The basics are that we meet up four days of the week and play together for four hours. In the beginning we usually play our ideas for each other. Every idea gets the attention. We often take things home and play around with it on our own. I need to understand the ideas of the others first of course. And when I do that I’m often inspired to write something completely different.
A Tool member recently revealed if Maynard James Keenan is paid more than his bandmates. Chancellor added, “Plus there’s also a lot of new ideas that come into existence when we three play together. Sometimes we also use unused fragments from the past that we wrote ages ago but never found their place. 7empest actually contains a chorus riff that Adam carried around for ages. Probably even from before I joined the band. We tried to use that riff on 10,000 Days but it was only good, not great, so we didn’t use it. In the end, our way of writing music is a long process of experimentation. We enjoy the luxury of taking this very seriously and giving it the time that it needs.”
Maynard James Keenan recently ripped a Tool boycott. Justin later said, “Of course we try to get songs done, but it’s a fight. Sometimes you just wanna bash your head into the wall. To us, finishing a song is the hardest part. That’s why we tried to not get stuck close to the end and instead to continue something else. On the other hand, you end up with a lot of unfinished songs and everyone constantly has new solutions to them. It’s really hard. In those critical phases we try not to argue with each other but to give every opinion the same respect.”
