Tool Fear Inoculum producer Joe Barresi discussed how long Maynard James Keenan took to finish recording his vocals in a new Pensado’s Place podcast interview. Alternative Nation transcribed his comments. A Tool member made a tragic Metallica revelation a few days ago.

“Then I took, after he tracked the whole album in six days actually, his vocal parts, then I came back to my studio, and I just came back to my studio at that point, so I was getting familiar with the tracks in my room.

Then I spent a day a song for the most part, kind of maybe recomping some stuff, and laying them out and then trying to come up with effects that would be used in the mix but weren’t [inuadible] like a reverb or delay, so a lot of the weirder vocal stuff are guitar pedals.”

Maynard James Keenan using a Scott Weiland trademark on the new Tool album was revealed yesterday. bent_eye pointed out how Maynard let his bandmates shine on a new Tool album song on Reddit. He wrote, “Pneuma 100% is my fave song on the album. It’s like the lovechild of Schism and The Patient with a bit of Jambi thrown in yet still sounds completely fresh.

I love the direction it spins off into at around the 7:00 mark and my fave riffage on this album starts at around 8:34. I love how Maynard has really stepped back to let the other members have their moment in the sun and then comes back with ‘PNEUMA’ at 10:00 mins. Danny’s middle eastern percussion adds a unique sound as well, and Adam really brings it home in the final moments. I think it encapsulates what Tool is about perfectly.” Maynard James Keenan was caught using a phone at a concert in a rare photo.
