The Beatles icon Ringo Starr has clarified that while the original ‘Let it Be’ documentary made it look like John Lennon and Paul McCartney strongly disliked each other, this was a myth, as there was a lot of ‘joy’ between the two rock titans. Ringo Starr recently revealed how many gay friends The Beatles had.
Parade asked, “The other movie is director Peter Jackson’s new film, fashioned from unused footage from the Let It Be film sessions from 1969. He has said that his movie will present a much more positive image of the end of the band than the original documentary, released in 1970, which showed four guys falling apart. What’s the true story?”
Starr answered, “I was never happy with the [film] because it picked one second of life—when John and Paul were in a row—and the whole documentary was built around that. There was also a lot of joy, a lot of laughter and a lot of interaction. Whatever our attitudes were at the time, we gave our all. And that was beautiful.”
Howard Stern recently revealed why John Lennon was really killed. BouncyC recently wrote about Paul McCartney’s Ram on The Beatles Reddit, “Critics panned Ram when it was released in 1971. More recent reviews have been more favorable, but still tepid. For me, it’s one of my all-time favorites, easily my favorite McCartney solo album and I prefer it over several Beatle albums.
Some of the criticism in 1971 called Ram ‘inconsequential,’ which I presume refers to its lyrics. Lennon called it muzak, which was interesting in that he also felt McCartney was taking jabs at him with some of the lyrics. Lennon often criticized McCartney’s lyrics as being about boring, make-believe people, but when McCartney wrote about (in guarded terms) his difficulties with the other Beatles or Linda’s ex-husband, Lennon didn’t like that either.
I usually don’t care where a songwriter/musician finds inspiration. If that is political or cause-related, fine, but a great song inspired by love, or daily life, or simple pleasures is fine with me, too. What do you think? Is Ram a classic, or would you pan it, too?” A sad Paul McCartney restaurant photo was revealed yesterday.
