Red Hot Chili Peppers were scheduled to perform at Roots Jam with John Mayer, Gary Clark Jr., Duckwrth, and Smino on Saturday night in Los Angeles. It would have been the band’s first reunion performance with John Frusciante. Josh Klinghoffer recently discussed Frusciante’s ‘heroin meltdown’ period.

An announcement prior to the show said, “For over a decade, The Roots have hosted one of the most anticipated and dynamic pre-Grammy events in LA, produced by their award-winning Tour Manager, Tina Farris. Every year, music’s best and brightest – newcomers and icons alike – pop-up unannounced to jam with the band and treat their audience to intimate, one of a kind performances.” Red Hot Chili Peppers were scheduled to perform from 1:50-2:00AM, but ended up canceling and not performing.

DGOJG commented on Reddit, “Must have been booked when Josh Klinghoffer was still in the band. Guessing they aren’t ready to play yet or probably don’t want that to be their debut show.

Kk0stil responded, “Why would they print out that timetable. I’m sure John and the guys could play a gig even last year if they wanted to.” Freakapotamous said, “They had more than a month to cancel it, but it seems they didn’t do it.”

Present_teloi wrote, “So far it seems more like the event ran out of time! Both of the concluding artists didn’t happen.” He added, “That is a super good point! they were both going to merge with the Roots for a song or two, so, maybe everyone agreed backstage like the concert felt complete ending with Gary Clark Jr?

But that also does make me think of whether there was a drum kit available for Chad or not. Maybe as DGOJG is saying, they would want to reappear as the full band with soundcheck and everything rather than anything less!” Josh Klinghoffer recently admitted to drug use.
